Welcome and Zdar Boh to Slovakia – in the Heart of Europe!

Get ready to join us for an inspiring mine water gathering in Slovakia, a country where mining history, mountain landscapes, thermal waters and modern science meet in a remarkably compact space. We warmly invite you to the 16th IMWA Congress, where mine water specialists from around the world will come together to exchange knowledge, discuss new ideas and strengthen the international mine water community.

Slovakia has a long and proud mining tradition. Historic mining towns such as Banská Štiavnica, once one of the most important mining centres in Europe, remind us how closely mining, water management and technical innovation have been connected for centuries. At the same time, Slovakia is a country of active research, practical mine water challenges and beautiful landscapes that make it an ideal host for an IMWA Congress.

The congress will offer an excellent opportunity to present your latest work, meet colleagues from many countries and discuss the future of mine water management in a friendly and open atmosphere. Whether your interest is mine water treatment, flooded mines, monitoring, modelling, environmental protection, mine closure or responsible water management, Slovakia will provide the right setting for fruitful discussions.

And why not bring your family or friends along? Slovakia offers much more than the congress itself. Visitors can explore medieval towns, castles, caves, mountains, wine regions, thermal spas and UNESCO World Heritage sites. From the High Tatras to the historic mining landscapes of central Slovakia, the country offers many attractive possibilities before, during and after the congress. An Accompanying Persons Program is planned so that guests can enjoy Slovakia while participants are attending the scientific sessions.

Slovakia is easy to reach from many European cities. Depending on your travel route, convenient international airports include Bratislava, Vienna, Budapest and Košice. Good road and rail connections make it possible to combine the congress with visits to neighbouring countries or with a longer journey through Central Europe.

We look forward to receiving your contributions and welcoming you to an IMWA Congress that will combine science, exchange, friendship and the unique atmosphere of Slovakia. Join us in 2027 for a memorable gathering of the international mine water community!

During the IMWA 2027 congress, you can directly stay at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, where the conference will take place. We recommend reserving your room early once bookings open, as availability will be limited.
