Student Award

IMWA and its Organ­iz­ing Com­mit­tees want to encour­age young sci­ent­ists and engin­eers to work in mine water man­age­ment. For this reas­on, IMWA awards cash prizes for the best stu­dent papers and present­a­tions. Stu­dents from all coun­tries are wel­come to take part.

Cash prizes are awar­ded to full-time stu­dents. Decisions are based on the qual­ity of the writ­ten paper and the oral present­a­tion.

  • PhD stu­dents 1st prize 750 Euro, 2nd prize 500 Euro
  • BSc/MSc stu­dents 1st prize 750 Euro, 2nd prize 500 Euro
  • Best Student’s Poster 1st prize 500 Euro

Stu­dents who want to be con­sidered for an award must con­firm their full-time stu­dent status when they sub­mit their paper. They must also provide an offi­cial let­ter from their uni­ver­sity or aca­dem­ic insti­tu­tion con­firm­ing that they are full-time stu­dents. Con­tact details of the insti­tu­tion must be included so that the Organ­iz­ing Com­mit­tee can check the inform­a­tion, if needed.

Awards will be presen­ted dur­ing the Con­fer­ence Clos­ing Cere­mony. There­fore, all papers con­sidered for an award must be presen­ted before this cere­mony. IMWA and its Organ­iz­ing Com­mit­tees hope that these awards will encour­age young stu­dents and research­ers from around the world to write and present high-qual­ity papers on a con­fer­ence top­ic of their choice.

Student Travel Scholarship

IMWA will offer three stu­dent travel grants of up to 600 Euro each to help stu­dents travel to the IMWA 2027 Con­fer­ence. If you are a stu­dent who would like to attend this Con­fer­ence but does not have the fin­an­cial means to do so, please send an email to the IMWA Gen­er­al Sec­ret­ary, Elke Mugova, at: StudentTravelScholarship@IMWA2027.info, explain­ing your plans and needs. IMWA has formed a com­mit­tee to eval­u­ate the applic­a­tions based on these emails.

Stu­dents who will be present­ing a paper will have an advant­age over those who are just plan­ning to attend the meet­ing.

Applic­a­tions will close on 31st Decem­ber 2026.
